well, read some mangas, something that actually makes my brain work, sometimes. Most of the time I just don't feel up to it moving my dying braincells to work.
So I discovered and be forever greatfull to Gant waiting room, for all their work. Cant say thanks enough. Especilly for Dorohedoro, oh I love this manga and I'll buy if when I actually have money from work.
Read all of Oku Hiroyas works, I found Gantz refreshing when I first read it. It kind of blood, blood, blood but maybe that's what most fun in it. But the other 3 titles, Hen which after reading the first volume I skipped every 3 chapter in search of any action but in the end gave up. I'm just not that big fun of "tease and denial" strategy in plot. Me-teru no kimochi was quite a good read, but can't say I feel very speacial about it. Finally I arrived at Zero One, which has a plot that contains more then 80% of cliches in any shonen. We have got the good, small boy that discovers a talent for a fighting game, which remided mi a bit of angelic layer but in virtual world. We have it arch-rival, an evil genius that is somewhat a sociopath (well maybe not sociopath, they seem charming at first glance), to prove that he is evil the autor lets us see that he doesn't even apologise when he hits the protagonist little sister. He is very evil, you can believe me, to prove it even more author draws him as he tears the leaflet father of protagonist gave him to pin up. In a very evil genius like way he despised every human being and treats them like bugs. Did I say that the family of protagonist is very very poor or that his father doesn't allow him to play in the game. Oh, and there is a Hikaru no Go spirit like on the disk that can take over the boys body, to distinguish that state his pupils show 01 at that time, so probably some secret organization is involved. Etc, etc. It is embarrassing to say somewhere after the first 7 chapters, maybe because I'm a big fan of tekken.
Read the end of Fressia, it is good. Read Wendy, it is good. Jiro Matsumoto is good.
Dorohedoro spent all weekend reading and re reading, it is also very good.
Ultra Heaven (Keiichi Koike), interesting idea and nice design of objects in the bars.
Desert Punk - Usune Masatoshi, after first volume, good but didn't make me get next volumes, maybe later.

At the end of every work week, probably due to accumulated frustration, I start to read a new manga about a catastrophe. Around the 3 volume I get discouraged and leave it be, because the "realism" in series as high school of dead or kanojo wo mamoru 51 no houhou ends at the explanations of some phenomena and very black and white character.

Also I can finally confirm I have a big soft spot for Hojo Tsukasa (City Hunter, Angel heart, Cats Eye) brave yakuzas leacherous main lead with soppy drama stories. Oh, how I love them.

Yesterday, I read the last 18 volumes of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles. It took me 8 hours, so it's about 2 volumes + an hour. I'm proud of myself.

Clamp started as a group of girls that made doujinshi. Most of them were short shonen-ai versions of currently running shonen mangas, i.e. saint seiya.
Clamp (and some others, like Kaori Yuki) made a big step in getting shounen-ai / shoujo-ai into mainstream. I just started counting the titles that did have this sort of themes going on. Mostly this kind of plots are really light.

It is the manga/anime of the moment. It is funny. It has useful information. I has enormous fandom, I can guess why. At first I actually was quite scared off by the amount of fanfiction/ fanart it generated.

Well the best thing is you can find your own cute country there. And the great think is that the author, instead of trying to redraw standar features of country, added a lot into characters. Anyway the way they behave in-sync with historical events is funny.

There are of course tons of comic books for girls, they divide in two categories shoujo (younger audience) and josei (for girls 18+). I always preferred other mangas, there is something uneasy when it takes 10 volumes of dating for the girl to get the first kiss, also all fiance, re-marrying parents business is starting to be extremely cliche. Not to mentioning all impossible scenarios of getting to live together by mistake or getting to be liked "by the most popular" guy at school.

All of this stuff makes me shiver.

There are authors I find good are : josei - Nonomiya Tomoko (Nodame Cantabile, Tensai Family Company), Yazawa Ai (Paradise Kiss, Nana), Yayoi Ogawa (Kimi wa Pet), shoujo: Ikuemi Ryo (Honey Bunny), Suzuki Julietta (Kami-sama Hajimeshita, Karakuri Odetto). Also it would be good to mention that Harlem Beat wa Yoake Made by Takashima Kazusa (mostly author of yaoi), the story is really different from typical plot.

Plus see Morinaga Ai, I'm kind of confused if I can call Yamada Tarou Monogatari shoujo.

I was planning to write about seinen comics but I think I have to revise some more before writing down about such heavy stuff.

For now I can give you my brief overview on yaoi and yuri stuff. Please feel free to skip this post if you do not like gay stuff, I know that tolerance is a must nowadays but not in the privacy of ones home and computer.

Yuri (girlxgirl) and yaoi (boyxboy) comics are directed mostly towards women. There's no equality rights on this market. Actually, thats no wonder as there is a big lack of good comics for women.

There are tons of yaoi mangas around. What I mostly find troublesome is their basic and shallow plot and the fact that most likely on the last seven pages of a chapter main characters land in bed and .... The stories are full of relationships like step siblings and old school mates discovering their mutual feelings, cliche dramas and even through I'm not gay I know it can't work this way.

The ones that do work and I think are very good are Love mode and Ze Yuki Shimizu, Love Pistols by Tarako Kotobuki. The stories make good use of the applied structure, plot revolves around main character wwhich introduce reader to side stories. This way it is easier to keep the interest and it doesn't become to eye-blinding lovely-lovely.

Good author to look at is also Takashima Kazusa, her Wild rock is somewhat a classic now. Her drawing are better than the story sometimes. Another classic is Boys next door from Kaori Yuuki. For a school life I would say Kawaii hito (Konno Keiko) is good, at least there are no overwhelmingly dramatic monologues.

I didn't read another classic Zetsuai so no comments here.

From all of this I like Mirai no kioku and Kaze no yukue (by Kunieda Saika). This is just a perfect everyday life comedy. And it is perfect. There are no exaggerations and no illogical twists. Anyway one of better love stories I read so far in manga.

Girls that traveled throught time and space

In manga's there are some common themes. Ie. there is this girl that is summoned to another dimension, time, place, whatever to save it. It re appears over and over, it is most like the very popular story base for fantasy shoujo (counting out magic girls stuff). Some series, firstly semi-historical Red River, author Chie Shinohara, - I stopped somewhere along 5th volume. It's nice but maybe I'm too old for this stuff. It's very shoujo, ie. takes long,long for first true lawfull kiss etc. It's good just not my type. A bit similar is Fushigi Yuugi by Watase Yuu. I read it when I was 15 with red face 'coz it was sooo romantic. Here also the main character is some sort of gods priestess, in red river it less supernatural (that is she didn't have any power). Magic Knight Rayearth from Clamp are just cute, see just drawings and you'll know (I have a soft spot for Clamp). And some of same themes are the The Twelve Kingdoms and The Vision of Escaflowne.

I have been reading manga for last 13 years. I started with the Sailor Moon, one of first comic books published in my country. It took me more than 3 days to read it (I was seven, maybe eight). My first anime was Captain Tsubasa when I was 4.

I have dyslexia, I'm not good at writing. But I will write so I can justify reading 30 volumes per week or so.
